Log Construction

In the 1700s, Swedish settlers brought to North America building customs, including the log cabin, from their home country. The settlers in the American West built very basic log cabins that were generally sturdy and weatherproof. These crude structures were built quickly and with very few tools. In the early years the cabins had no indoor plumbing and few, if any appliances. They represented the rough and difficult lives of those people who built and occupied them.

Today, log cabins are finely crafted, beautifully appointed, and often spacious homes with all of the available amenities for a comfortable life. While the building process is mostly the same, the builder has a very different set of issues that must be well understood. Mountain Top Builders has broad experience building a variety of beautiful log homes.

Log Trim and Accents

It is also possible to achieve a rustic mountain "log look" through the use of varied materials. Several styles of log siding are available to finish a home with a warm log touch. The use of log beams and trim are often employed to add the feeling of log construction without incurring the costs often associated with building a full log home.
